Snippets About Autumn

"I love Autumn,
I love Fall.
I love November
best of all."

~ by Leah

Impressed? I thought you would be. I worked on that a long time! Haha!

I do love this season we're in though, for numerous reasons. I wondered just how many times I'd written about it over the years, and a quick search of my blog titles revealed many. Today, I thought I'd revisit THIS POST I originally wrote back in September of 2009 about my love for all things fall. It's every bit as true today as it was back then!

"I believe I've mentioned here on my blog a few times in the past how much I absolutely love-love-love Fall. Yet I don't recall ever going into very much detail with my reasons why.

Well, today I'm changing that - even if the official first day of autumn is still a week away.

Today I give you the Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Fall!

10. A Slower Pace/Structure
After the busyness of Summer, I really appreciate the fact that Fall calls me to slow down a bit. School begins, new schedules are worked and re-worked, and we all settle into a new, fresh routine. It's a bit like Nesting I guess, in that I'm anticipating Winter (and staying put for awhile), my second favorite season.

9. Warm Colors
I think there's just something so delightful about all the warm, rich colors of Autumn, and they speak loudly to me of an awesome Creator! I love the browns and golds of dried crops, Indian corn and mums, and the reds and oranges of the Sugar Maples and pumpkins. It all just gives me a warm fuzzy inside and seems to scream "Cozy!"

8. Harvest Time
It's mind-boggling to me when I stop to think of how our crops grow. I mean, putting one tiny kernel of corn in the ground that will eventually grow to produce hundreds of kernels. Who else but God, I ask you!? Amazing! I always say that Harvest time in the country is fast and furious, but such a joy to watch as farmers gather in their bounty.

7. Hot Drinks
Now that the weather is beginning to cool off a bit, I've taken some of my favorite mugs out of storage and returned them to their rightful place for the season. For me, they will hold the warm, delicious sweetness of things like spiced cider fresh from the orchard and homemade hot chocolate, as well as cappuccino and coffee with a hint of flavored creamer. My favorite this time of year is Pumpkin Spice.

6. Yummy Smells
Fall seems to put me in the mood for candles. How about you? Seeing that tiny flickering flame adds a coziness to my home, and fills it with wonderful aromas. I like anything fall-related, like Harvest, Spiced Pumpkin and Mulled Cider. Among my favorite Bath and Body Works Wallflower scents are Creamy Nutmeg and Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin.

5. A Busy Kitchen
With the heat of Summer gone, turning on the oven isn't repulsive to me anymore! In fact, it makes me wanna get in there and whip up some yumminess! Nothing says "Fall's Here!" like a batch of warm Pumpkin Muffins, fresh loaves of Cinnamon Bread, or a pot of Beef Stew!

4. Crackling Fires
Inside or outside, I love me a good fire! There's nothing like sitting around the fire pit outside in the cool evenings with friends, finishing off the last of the season's marshmallows. Well, unless it's curling up to a fire in the Family Room with a good book and a cup of something hot!

3. Football
I know I probably surprised some of you with that one, but of all the sports on TV, football is my favorite. We love the Steelers in this house, and I've already printed out their fall schedule and entered the dates they play into my Outlook Calendar. We don't want to miss even one!

2. Thanksgiving
Of all the holidays throughout the year, I think Thanksgiving has to be my favorite. Don't get me wrong - I love the Christian symbolism of Christmas and Easter, but Thanksgiving brings family to our home. It's a leisurely day to both rest and relax, and just hang out and enjoy each other! No one's out running around, it's not a hard holiday to schedule, and nobody has to bring gifts!

1. Cooler Temperatures
Even if all the other stuff didn't come along with Autumn, it'd still be my favorite season for this reason alone. Days are getting shorter, high temps are gradually getting lower, the sky seems to be getting bluer, and it's time to dig out the comfy jeans and sweaters for another go-round.

Fall, where have you been? I love you!"

Love your post, however, I could live without #3, I still can't get the reason why a bunch of guys, chase each other, get dirty, bump chests, and fight over a ball--that sounds like a bunch of little boys, Oh, maybe I just answered my question. I do love all the colors, smells, and tastes of fall. And especially the cooler weather. It's 49 degrees at 6:45. Only getting up to 80 today.

Fall is my most favorite season of the year. Yes, spring is great when the earth is waking from it's long winter nap but fall just has that special rest that isnt' offered in any other season. Great post!

Yes, I feel much the same way. (Winter isn't my second favorite season, though.) What a delightful and specific list! I particularly enjoyed reading about Harvest.

Hi Leah! This is a great post and I love your list and I agree with most of it. Fall is my favorite season! It just feels so cozy. I'm enjoying looking out my window at the golden leaves still falling from the maple tree as I write this.
Have a joy filled weekend!

Leah, I so love how the colors in your blog banner, background, and the Giving Thanks Challenge coordinate! It's just gorgeous! I'm working on redoing my blog, step-by-step, so I don't mess it up. I'll be joining the challenge, but I want to write my post for tomorrow so you'll see me then. Blessings to you, Kd ~ www.KdQuilts.com

I feel the same way about my oven/stove. It heats the house up so much in the summer, that I have to use it, but love the warmth it provides in the fall and winter!

I haven't had as much as I would like to comment and read everyone's posts, but I wanted to thank you for hosting this again!

Love you!

Leah - your post echos so many of my joyous sentiments for fall - we have a few significant celebrations that land during this most colorful time of year and that makes it extra delightful! My Storyteller and I power walked 2 miles while sister was at piano and it was soooooo lovely! Leaves crunching, a cool breeze and the most delicious smells in the air!

I am loving the challenge - thanks for your kind comments! I'm glad I made you laugh - I explained more in my comments! The prunes were NOT for me!
