Typing that just makes me happy! I LOVE.LOVE.LOVE Thanksgiving!!
We'll have 22 here on Thursday, which is a very do-able number - especially since they're forecasting a high of 56° that day! Can you believe it? It promises to be a beautiful day! Kids can be outside horsing around after dinner, the guys can be playing with their guns and clay pigeons, and us gals can be watching from inside while drinking coffee and catching up. (smile)
Hosting for several years, I feel like I've got it down to a science. Everybody brings a few things (including dinner and supper items AND paper products), which makes it manageable for all. My contributions are the home, the turkey, the dressing and the gravy. See? I can so handle that!
This morning I browned the sausage for the dressing, and also got the onions and celery chopped and sauteed. The house smells so good right now! I'll put two small turkey breasts in the crock pot tomorrow and get those shredded up, and save the actual turkey-cooking for Thursday morning.
[SIDE NOTE: I walked into a home on Thanksgiving Day once. It did NOT smell like dinner. It was a disappointment. The hostess had done the turkey earlier in the week. I understand that. But no smell? On Thanksgiving? Oh, for Pete! That's all part of it, is it not!? So anyway, I say, "That will never happen at my house!"]
Today is a lazy day. My husband brought me coffee fixed just the way I like it, and Suzanne gave me a frozen chocolate chip cookie dough ball for breakfast. I am loved! :) With my kitchen chores finished for now, I'm plopped in my favorite chair with the Christmas music channel playing on the TV. No school this week, either. One of the privileges of homeschooling! Tonight the kids are fixing a special meal, and tomorrow I'm taking a trip all by myself to "the big city" to meet two special ladies for a day of eating, shopping and catching up.
The week is off to a great start and I'm so thankful to be alive!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sounds like you are going to have a stupendous day! I get to take a covered dish and relax. My kids are older so they will be outside running around with the smaller kids. I love the smell of Thanksgiving though. Christmas is my holiday to host. Because my house is big and there is plenty to do. I need to get a head count and see how many I am expecting this year. Happy Thanksgiving if I don't get to you before Thursday!
You are so organized to be able to take a shopping day right before the holiday. Enjoy your time with you friends.
Leah,
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week! We'll be passing by in a few days, so I'll wave!
Yes, I want to smell the cooking! What a big crowd you're having...what fun to look forward to! Sounds as if your day has gone very well! =)
Your plans sound wonderful! I love cooking the Thanksgiving meal, too. This year it's just me and Adam so, alas, no big cooking plans. I hope and pray some day to be part of a large family gathering again. Hope you and the other 21 have a WONDERFUL day (yay! weather!). Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sounds like a fabulous feast day is planned and you won't be in a tizzy having to do all the fixings. This year, I'll be working the holiday, so no special plans. Thankful to "be" is good enough Thanksgiving for me.
I soooo enjoyed our girls' day of shopping/food/coffee! It was the highlight of my Thanksgiving week! Thanks for taking the time to play with me! Luv ya!
I bought our turkey pre-cooked this year. I missed the smell too. I don't think that I will do that again.
Happy THanksgiving to you!
Leah, this sounds like a perfect Thanksgiving to me, I love all the smells of dinner cooking at holidays. And the weather seems perfect for playtime.
Yes! you are loved, enjoy the rest.
Thanks for hosting GTC, I didn't post everyday, but it has certainly been a wonderful experience for me, not to mention the new friendships.
Blessings,
Sue
Leah, you have a few items on your list that beg for an explanation, specifically #s 23 and 24. How're things going? I am going to visit through the list tonight for the final time. I rather lost it for about ten days and now, having regained some balance, am going to go see what all the gals have been doing. Thank you so much for another November of Giving Thanks. Love you!
Ooooohhh, I SO AGREE with you - there MUST be that distinct turkey in the oven smell, or it simply isn't Thanksgiving!! Hey, sausage? celery? ... I think we make similar stuffing! Do you also use homemade cornbread?! :)
Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Leah!
((hugs)) ~

Just popping in making some rounds and catching up on the Giving Thanks List...
I so enjoyed this activity through out the month. I don't know if you do a mail out or not, but I hope you remind me next year to do it again. I think an attitude of thankfulness is just what we need when heading into the Holiday season and Celebration of the birth and ultimately the death of Christ... and also for the New Year!
This challenge was just that. I found that I take so much for granted! I was even telling someone that had stopped by because of the list, that this morning I thought quickly about making #29 that I was thankful for only 30 days this month! I didn't put that-- but MY GOD--appreciates my honesty. He uses my honesty to get to ME the most!
Anyway-- thank you for hosting.
It was a tremendous blessing to me and others as well!
Pat
