As a P.S. to my previous post, I should also add that being without a job is another huge reason why I am kinda-sorta looking forward to this summer. It wasn't a job that added to our family income, mind you, so don't feel sorry for me. It was pretty much my "egg money". And I wasn't fired. I chose to quit. The job was just demanding more of me and my time than I wanted to give.
For the last five years, I've been a 24/7 at-home Executive Secretary for a non-profit organization that my father-in-law began over 40 years ago. Ironically, my husband is now the current Board President.
The office phone was forwarded here to the house, and people called at all hours of the day and night. I could choose to not answer and let the machine get it, which I did frequently, especially during our school hours. But knowing it could ring at any moment made me feel like I was always in "work" mode. And really - is there a reason why anyone should have to phone and ask a ridiculous question before 7:00 in the morning? Is there?!
My job involved some fall / winter / spring work, but the bulk of my hours each year were logged during the summer months. Which meant that for a homeschooling mom like me, I never got much of a summer vacation.
No so this year!
I have already enjoyed free-reading time in major amounts, a 4-day camping trip with my family and friends, and day-long shopping trips with the girls. I feel like I'm retired actually, and it's wonderful!
The best feeling of all though, is that my brain isn't constantly cluttered with a huge mental to-do list, or the feeling that I'm forgetting some deadline. I can also sit down at my computer now and not have to work. I can keep up on blog reading, play Ms. PacMan, and browse Amazon to my heart's content. =)

Who has the job now? Not your hubby I hope! :D I can see all your points and so I am very glad that you have the summer off to enjoy all that'll be going on.
Isn't it wonderful to be able to do what you want when you want? Enjoy your summer!
