Wedding Weekend - Decorating

I wanted to try and recap the weekend before things get busy, and most importantly - before I forget!  So these next few posts are as much for me as they are for you!

Thursday afternoon, we all met at the church to help vacuum, wash windows, arrange extra chairs, and decorate.  It took all of two hours with as much help as we had.  I don't know why I didn't bring my camera in!  We were headed back home before I realized I hadn't snapped a single photo.  In a later post, you'll see what it looked like.

Friday morning, we were all back in town at the community center at 9:00.

Here's Emily with some of the guys, working on getting the tree branches potted in sand for the entry and behind the head table.

Here's the arch from the entry into the main reception hall.

Slow going...

...but we made steady progress.

Emily's mom and I snuck back to the reception hall early Saturday afternoon during the pictures to make sure things had been arranged just so.  And they had.  Everything was beautiful!

The entry, with a decorated tree branch, vintage gate, flowers, and a miniature church.

Isn't she pretty, just hanging out with the others?

The reception hall, after the cakes had been delivered.

Each long and round table had a cake that served as both the centerpiece and the dessert.  Isn't that a novel idea?  The polka dotted ones were white cake, and the striped ones were chocolate.  At the reception, guests were instructed to cut into them at their leisure.

These little guys definitely had the right message for the day!

The head table, where the bridal party sat.  Brady and Emily each had five attendants, so there were seats for 12.  Each bridesmaid hung her yellow bouquet in those white hangers along the front, and they added so much color to the table!  The trees branches had white lights on them, as did the table.

The punch table, where a delicious lemon punch was served.  I need to get the recipe!  But just so you know, it was a combination of lemon sherbet, vanilla ice cream and lemon/lime pop.  So refreshing!

The pretty cake table, decorated so simply.  The bottom two layers are actually Styrofoam inside.  The smaller top layer is the one the kids cut for pictures.  I believe there were a few sheet cakes served as well.

And the snack table, so guests could munch both before the reception started, and during the evening dance.

I'll be back to share more photos and details soon!

Loved seeing all the photos and so many great ideas...espcially the cakes at each table, the boquets being hung from the front of the bridal party table and the snack table! Love it!

I enjoy your blog as a fellow Iowan. Is this reception place in Everly, by any chance? That is my hometown and where I had my wedding reception! I was one of the first to have wedding reception there.

Love the yellow/black white combo--very fun for summer!

We served cupcakes on cakestands at each table for the centerpieces at our reception. So handy that people didn't have to walk around to get their cake.

I agree the snack table is a great idea! Can't wait to see more pix--thanks for your e-mail.

So many pretty ideas, I love that weddings and receptions are becoming more personal, and we can throw the old rules out the window and just have fun with things. Beautiful!

I have never seen that color scheme for a wedding before and I really like it. So very elegant and pretty. Looks like a whole lot of people attended the wedding. You and the bride's mom rode herd pretty good to make sure that everything was accomplished and looking so lovely. Lots of wonderful details and I do like the idea of the cakes on each table. Pretty good thinking.

Ahhh Leah... I popped over to see if you were keeping the Thankful Challenge going this year, not realizing that I was on one from a previous year... and then I see that much has been going on in your life in IOWA! A wedding to boot! WOW!

Yet I saw some posts with some prayer needs and I should have been praying for and with you!

Since you have not posted since June... I'll assume that you are not doing the NOVEMBER CHALLENGE
since it's getting so close... however I do want to thank you for all the years that you kept that tradition going!!! (maybe I should do it over at my place...let me know if you plan on doing it, ok?)
Meanwhile, know that I said a prayer for you today... and hope that the Holy Spirit taps me a few more times when you may need some prayer... or just encouragement!

Peace and thankful... a MN neighbor in Mexico,
Peggy
